USS JOHN C. STENNIS
January 27, 2006
David took Alyeska back to Roche Harbor with best friends Fred and Carolyn this week. We had just starting up the relatively narrow Rich Passage from the south when a Coast Guard cutter entered the same passage from the north. Soon we get a call on 16 from the Coast Guard asking (read that telling) us to clear the channel. Naturally we pulled over much closer to the shore to see what was going to happen next. To our surprise and delight, an aircraft carrier then rounded the point and entered the passage southbound. She was the nuclear powered USS JOHN C. STENNIS, CVN 74, sporting a brand new paint job! We were VERY impressed as she passed closely by our position.
