All Dolled Up!

All Dolled Up!All Dolled Up!

September 28, 2007

Alyeska should be back in the water this afternoon.  During this haul out she got all dolled up: her lettering was renewed, she received two coats of bottom paint, her props were polished and coated with Prop Speed, and her hull and house paint were touched up in about 15 places.  Well deserved cosmetics after nearly six years in the water.

Annual Haul Out

Annual Haul Out
September 22, 2007

Ally was pulled out of the water yesterday in Sydney, BC for her annual maintenance - a week at the spa for boats!

We are enjoying a week at the inn next door - Lenni especially enjoys the treat of land time.

Ally's bottom looked pretty good after 4000+ miles of traveling. If only the rest of us ladies could say the same!

Sunrise

We had a perfect day yesterday for cruising down the Strait of Georgia, clear skies, unlimited visibility, and calm seas. This morning's sunrise, as seen from our slip at Schooner Cove, portends another beautiful day for cruising.

Fogbow

Fogbow
Sept 10, 2007

We've seen lots of rainbows in our travels, but never a "fogbow". As we left Lagoon Cove this morning, the morning fog was beginning to burn off and the combination of sun and fog created this treat for us. Fortunately, as the morning moved on, so did the fog, and another beautiful day in BC was upon us.

You can see why we consider Fury Cove one of our favorite anchorages. We always enjoy the beauty of this spot and Lenni loves the beach.

We look forward to returning here each year on our way up to and back from Alaska.

Grooming Day

Grooming Day
Sept. 7, 2007

The weather is gorgeous at Fury Cove and Lenni got to swim and run on the beach - her favorite thing to do!

After her swim, she got a good grooming - her Dad thinks her hair is too short! Perhaps it is because that evening she got the shivers from being cold.

Dad let her borrow his favorite shirt to sleep in and she was very happy !

Fog and more fog....

Fog and more fog....
Sept. 6, 2007

We left Shearwater this morning and immediately got into a fog bank with very limited visibility. Unfortunately, we spent the entire day navigating through it on our way down to Fury Cove. The sun tried to peak through and burn it off, but of course that didn't happen until we reached our destination. We'll take a few days off here at one of our favorite spots - the weather is supposed to improve.

Log Jam

Log Jam
Sept 3, 2007

This has got to be the origin of the phrase "log jam"". One of the benefits of having a steel hull is that we have a better defense against debris and flotsam in the waters. This, however, requires a change of route! We are seeing a lot of this lately due to the unusually high tides of the past few weeks. The tides reach up higher on the land and dislodge lots of debris that normally stays ashore and makes for a more vigilant watch underway.

"Street" Signs

"Street" Signs
Sept 1, 2007

We are headed south along the BC coast. This stretch of coast is noted for its signage along the way marking harbors and points of interest. It is actually quite a controversial subject between the purists (i.e. environmentalist) and the recreational boaters. Apparently, some boaters make these signs and nail them to the trees along the way and call it "art". We personally feel that this remote wilderness is beautiful enough and far more artistic than anything man made.

Can she get anymore spoiled....

Can she get anymore spoiled....
August 30, 2007

Is it possible that Miss Lenni could get any more spoiled? The answer is yes! As we crossed Dixon Entrance to Prince Rupert yesterday, Carol decided that the Princess would be more comfortable with a pillow to prop her head on.

A good crossing was had by all, especially the pampered pooch...
